Moreton Island Weekend!!!! 7th - 9th October 2011 - Sem 2
WOOOHHHOOO What an amazing weekend on Moreton Island.
Friday
Yeah Friday 6.30 in the morning and the weather forecast is forecasting rain and storms….sigh….well whatever we were on our way to Moreton Island and f*** the weather forecast it was wrong the sun was up and smiling upon us and not one single cloud nor raindrop as forecasted (QUEST 1 FORECAST 0). So we were on our way with two buses to Port Brisbane to be dropped off at the ferry (no buses or cars allowed on Moreton Island just 4WD because there are no paved roads only sand roads and the beach). At 8.30 am we all (+100 of other people) jumped on the ferry and we were on our way crossing Moreton Bay to Moreton Island. The Bay was just beautiful and the weather also. On board most of us got their breakfast (mmmhhh….Meat Pies) and a few already opened up their first beers (yes I am looking at you Dahra and Jonathan)!!! It was 9 am!!! What so ever, the exec split us up into three groups because each of these groups was doing different kinds of activity during the weekend at separate times (YEAH SANDBOARDING AND SNORKELING!!!!).
We arrived at a beautiful Island named Moreton Island!! Unbelievable, sunny weather, old rusty ship wrecks in the sea and the first group was on their way to snorkel between and around these wrecks, even feeding the fish (there was heaps of them, heaps of fish schools). Amazing!!!! The other two groups were brought to the site which ‘Moreton Island Adventure’ provided us with and where we were all staying for the weekend. While the others were snorkelling the other groups were free from activity and spent their time sorting out their dorms, hanging around at the beach and playing a bit of footy, walking around the bush and hey even fishing!!!!
Later in the evening most of the Questies met at the beach to watch the beautiful sunset and the whales that were passing through the bay (as seen below in the video).
A few were even lucky enough to jump on a boat which took them close to the whales (you lucky b******s)!!! Afterwards we all had to head back to the site because it was Dinner time!!! Snags and burgers plus heaps of veggies, yummy!!!! After dinner we all headed back to the beach and sat around a bonfire which the QUEST Exec put up. We had a few drinks, roasted marshmallows and just enjoyed the rest of the night!!!
Saturday
Early in the morning (by early I mean 6 AM) a bunch of Questies were already up had breakfast and prepared their lunch for the day because they were preparing themselves for a long hike on the Island! 10 minutes later as they left, it started pouring down rain and they were back, soaking wet (QUEST 1 FORECAST 1)!!! Well the other Questies enjoyed a nice breakfast and heaps of pancakes which the ‘Exec’ made. Hours later it was still raining and more and more dark clouds in sight, so all the activities which were planned til noon were cancelled, at least the group which was supposed to be snorkelling got a tour around the North side of the Island (where the light house was) and the others stayed at the site and at least they could sleep a bit longer.
After a long sleep we all got up again and hey what’s this…yeah the sun is back and all the clouds were gone (EAT THIS FORECAST QUEST 2 FORECAST 1). As soon as the other group came back the rest of on the site were on their way to ‘The Dessert’ to go sand boarding. It was just awesome and everything was dry nothing was wet. Thanks sun. After all the groups arrived back at the site it was dinner time. Spaghetti Bolognese and Macaroni & Cheese!!!! Delicious!!! Afterwards it was like the night before. Happily socialising, playing games and chilling at the fire.
Sunday
Now this time everyone had to get up early, clean up the dorms and then we were already on our way back to the beach where we arrived the day before (where all the ship wrecks were). Now the groups who didn’t go sand boarding or snorkelling yet did that this afternoon and afterwards we were all relaxing at the beach until we had to board the ferry back home. Guess what? Weather was still awesome (You lose Weather forecast).
On the ferry…oh what’s this…TV!!!Yeah Rugby World Cup!!! The Wallabies versus the Springboks (Australia vs South Africa)…and the Wallabies won!!Yeah!!!! On the way back to Port Brisbane we just enjoyed the sunset and were unhappy as beautiful awesome amazing (etc.) Moreton Island was disappearing from the horizon. Well what an amazing weekend. Thank you ‘Moreton Island Adventures’ for the accommodation, activities and the rest.
Hope you guys loved it, read ya soon.
